The Autobiography of a Yogi is considered to the The Book That Sparked a Spiritual Revolution.
Autobiography of a Yogi has influenced people from all walks of life, from Mahatma Gandhi, Luther Burbank, Steve Jobs, George Harrison, Joseph Campbell, Andrew Weil, Joseph Cornell to cultural creatives who now shape our society. The passing of Steve Jobs in 2011 ignited renewed interest in Autobiography of a Yogi. Since Jobs discovered the book in 1970, he read it every year. It was the only book loaded on his iPad, and he had copies given to all attendees at his memorial service. Beatle George Harrison said "I read the book and it gave me goosebumps...somehow his pureness of heart just flowed out of it."
First published in 1946, Autobiography of a Yogi has sold more than 20 million copies, in 34 languages, and is among USA Today's top 100 most important spiritual books of the 20th century. Probably one of the most shared books in the world, it provides a first-hand account of the life experiences of Paramahansa Yogananda, his search for spiritual connection, and how he learned the ancient Kriya Yoga science.
Yogananda arrived in America from India in 1920 and founded the Self Realization Fellowship with a mission to help people realize joy in their daily lives. In that decade, he was one of the most sought-after speakers in the country. He met United States President Calvin Coolidge in the White House. The Los Angeles Times wrote, "Thousands being turned away from the 3,000-seat Philharmonic Auditorium...Swami Yogananda is the attraction.
